What are we doing?

Our new home is lovely.

Our children (Ms's 8, 7 and 4 ) are 'nervous-cited', which is pretty much a perfect blend of excited nervousness. Their father and I feel the same.

In 3 weeks we will be embarking on a life changing adventure, moving from a busy suburb in a busy city where we have to drive everywhere, to a small, quiet rural town where we likely won't even need a car.
It reminds me of my childhood during the late 70s and early 80s. Everything is within short walking distance. The town has everything you need and nothing more. I expect the pace of life will be slower, simply because it can be.

Our new home is a beautiful 1920s bungalow on a quiet, wide, tree lined street. Here there will be no police pursuits, mean dogs or screaming neighbours. There will be hourly chiming of the town clock, quiet hellos and the occasional break in the peace by the volunteer fire brigade alarm going off.

I'm sure it will not be perfect. But it will be safe and it will be a fresh start.

Deciding to move here has taken bravery, and a desire to live outside the mainstream way of thinking. My husband will be leaving his long term reliable job to pursue a new, different career path. As a couple we have decided to approach paid work in a flexible manner and it may transpire that we both end up working part time only, just so we can spend more time with our children. Or perhaps he will stay home with our daughters and I will work. However our lives end up looking, we know that anything we choose to do will be done mindfully and always with our children's best interests at heart.

As a family and as individuals, we feel the pull towards a simpler life. We want less stuff, and more time together. Less time in cars, and more time walking to where we need to be. Fewer people and more friends. Ease.

Come join us in our new, uncertain and challenging adventure.
